Canadian Energy Museum
I really had a lot, lot, lot of fun while visiting this museum mainly geared towards petroleum resources, but which also presents all energy sources, even the greenest! Upon entering the main exhibition hall, we are welcomed by a huge historical fresco starting with the First Nations present in the region and evolving towards a chronology which brings us to the very beginning of the history of oil drilling in Leduc County, Alberta. This exhibition is great with a reproduction of a driller’s cabin which we can enter, real models, 360-degree videos, the evolution of workers’ costumes, etc. The guide embellishes the visit with sometimes funny, sometimes tragic anecdotes.
In the largest part, which looks more like a hangar, lies the experiment room which welcomes school groups, and where I could examine different minerals. Along the route, we find collections of oil cans and other objects related to petroleum, interactive educational panels and even a real pipeline cut open to explain how it works. The last section of this room is dedicated to green energies. I was able to play in an energy-efficient house which looks like a doll’s house. Finally, in a small adjacent room, magnificent canvases on the same theme adorn the walls.
Throughout my visit, I was able to touch, run, cross the pipeline without the museum people being annoyed. It was one of the richest museum experiences for me in terms of education and sensory discovery.

Message From My Parents
This is a great visit for the whole family, whether the subject interests you or not, because you will inevitably learn about the energies we consume, and we all consume them; they’re impossible to escape. The people in the museum are very open to welcoming children. There are no stairs, everything is on the same floor, so it’s very easy to get around in a stroller. In addition, there is a changing table in the washroom! Truly an enriching experience for the whole family!
