Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village

This large cultural site, a few kilometres east of the city, not far from Elk Island, will keep you busy for several hours if you visit the forty historic buildings open to the public. Go back to the 1930s with actors in historical costumes who tell the story of the first Ukrainians established in the area. Live animals, present on the site, offer a demonstration of their former function in order to give visitors a total immersion in the past. In order to facilitate your transport and offer you a richer experience, a horse-drawn cart takes you around.

I was blown away by the richness of Ukrainian culture and the size of the site. Each building tells a story, the actors are generous and answer our questions while they keep doing their chores. Everything is very clean and well appointed. Forty-five-minute guided tours are included in the entry price, but they are not offered every day (see website). The main building, meanwhile, offers a modern exhibition, a souvenir shop and a cafeteria.

Message From My Parents

Wooden trails are built on part of the site, but the rest of the walk is on dirt roads. The site is very big, so you have to be able to walk for a few hours. It is recommended to bring your stroller if you have young children and don’t want to lose them. Superb visit for slightly older children who will better understand the old-fashioned way of life. However, it could be a long and boring visit for children under the age of 10.
